Spring is almost here! We gathered together to prepare for the upcoming season by planting seedlings for the garden and grounds. Emily, a master gardener, taught us that seeds are "little babies with a packed lunch" ready to jump through the soil in search of the sun's energy! She also taught us which vegetables are best for Somerville's climate, how to make seed calendars for each plant type indicating when to sow and transplant, and gave a detailed lesson on square foot gardening as a method of maximizing yield from a garden plot. We each planted seeds in small containers to be put in warm windowsills. We should see little sprouts in a week or two! After all the seeds were nestled in the soil, we sat down together to enjoy a delicious potluck.
